Day 2

We're home! I am so happy that we're home. The surgery went well. The doctor repaired his lip in addition to the palate. It was so heartbreaking when we walked in. Josiah was already waking up and crying. We couldn't hold him right away because it was important to have him lie prone so we could tell if his palate was bleeding. He was crying like we've never heard him cry. Nothing we did would console him. We were moved to a room on the floor. We had some not so good experiences with residents and nurses, but everyone was pretty nice. They were just not all that in tune with what our cleft palate repair entailed. One resident asked if Josiah had his cleft lip and palate from birth. Aah!

The night was really rough. I'm not even sure how many times he woke up last night. He did have a good moment when we pulled him around in a wagon. He even clapped over and over again. People kept waving at him like he was in a parade. He was King Josiah!

I woke up to tons of people in our room and one of them was my friend, Dr. Sam Chung with a surprise delivery of delicious pastries and juice. This breastfeeding momma was very happy!

It seemed like a long time, but our doctor finally overruled the residents' opinions and we were discharged! We are home and Josiah slept for three hours as soon as we got home. He was able to drink a little milk before he went to bed and he also had peaches and carrots! YAH!!! It was really wonderful to see him eat. We'll see how tonight goes.

    PRAISE GOD!!!! we are SO happy that you are home and that josiah is doing okay. sooo heartbreaking to hear about his crying. :( may he experience a SPEEDY recovery! we will keep praying.

    You did so great, Josiah! So glad you are home! May God give you a big appetite and the ability to gobble up your food despite your recovery! May that lead to a normal sleep schedule and lots of smiles! Amen! We love you!

    josiah - what a trooper! interesting to think though, that he won't remember any of this, and he'll have to hear stories about his amazing journey (really, starting from conception for this little guy) to know about what pulled him through all of this. and pretty much from now on, new people will never know, and old friends may start to forget, where all that toughness comes from...

    and yeah, what is up with that resident? was that a real question?
